Project M 3.6b on USB Loader GX

PURPOSE:

A detailed guide on how to set up Project M 3.6b for use with USB Loader GX.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Softmodded Wii with Homebrew Channel installed.

  • SD card (any size up to 32 GB — SDHC is supported with this method).

  • Hard drive (or flash drive) that can connect via USB.

  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl ISO.

  • Windows operating system.

STEPS:

  1. Format your hard drive and SD card to FAT32 format with a 32kb (32768 byte) allocation size.

  • Since Windows doesn't allow you to format drives larger than 32 GB into FAT32 format, I recommend using FAT32_GUI_Formatter to do the formatting.

  10. Wait for the transfer to complete.

  11. Download the ModMii Installer.

  12. Nikita vizniak books. Use ModMii to download 'd2x v10 beta 53 alt cIOS 249 (base 56)' and 'd2x v10 beta 53 alt cIOS 250 (base 57)' in WAD format:

  13. Open the ModMii Installer and install ModMii.

  14. Open ModMii.exe where you installed it.

  15. Type I Agree and press the Next button.

  16. Select ModMii Classic Mode for more activities and press the Next button.

  17. Type I Agree again and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

  18. Type 4 on the selection menu (Download Page 4 for cIOS and cMIOS) and press Enter on your keyboard.

  19. Type BETA on the cIOS selection menu and press Enter on your keyboard.

  20. Type 1 on the Beta cIOS selection menu (d2x-v10-beta53-alt) and press Enter on your keyboard.

  21. Type 24956 (cIOS249[56]-d2x-v10-beta-alt) and press Enter on your keyboard, type 25057 (cIOS250[57]-d2x-v10-beta-alt) and press Enter, and then type D and press Enter.

  22. Type Y and press Enter on your keyboard.

  23. Wait for the downloads to finish.

  24. Go to the 'COPY_TO_SD' folder where you installed ModMii and copy the WAD folder within it to the root of your SD card.

  25. Download Yet Another WAD Manager Mod (YAWMM), USB Loader GX (r1239), Project M 3.6 beta (Homebrew version), and Project M 3.6b Toon Link fix.

  26. Extract YAWMM, USB Loader GX, Project M 3.6b, and Toon Link fix onto the root of the SD card in that order.

  27. Connect your hard drive to the USB port furthest to the outside of the Wii, and plug in the SD card into the SD card slot of the Wii.

  28. Boot up your Wii and go to the Homebrew Channel.

  29. Open YAWMM and install the 'cIOS249[56]-d2x-v10-beta53-alt.wad' and 'cIOS250[57]-d2x-v10-beta53-alt.wad' files.

  30. Restart the Wii.

  31. Open up the Homebrew Channel again and open up USB Loader GX.

  32. Select Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the USB Loader GX menu.

  33. Select Settings -> Game Load.

  34. Set Ocarina to ON, set IOS to 249, set Hook Type to AXNextFrame or VBI, and select the option to Save the settings.

  35. Back out of the Settings menu and select the option to start playing Brawl.

If everything was done correctly you should now see Project M load right away.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Make sure you delete all custom maps for Brawl before attempting to load Project M (three maps are created by default whenever you create a new Brawl save file, so double check to be safe). I recommend just completely deleting any Brawl save files from the Wii menu to be 100% sure.

  • Do NOT name your SD card or hard drive 'Project M'.

  • Some of the Brawl ISOs floating around out there were not backed up correctly and consequently freeze at certain points in the game. So ensure that you are either ripping a copy of Brawl from your personal Brawl disc, or you verify that the ISO you are using has been ripped correctly.

  • There is some confusion regarding the size and type of SD card needed. From what I found, you can use any size SDHC card if you have softmodded your Wii with d2x cIOS v10 beta alt on slot 249 (base 56). The confusion comes from Project M requiring a 2 GB SD card for running the Hackless version on a Wii that has not been modded in any way.

  • You will want to use the Homebrew version of Project M when loading via USB.

  • If you select Ocarina under the Settings menu of Brawl in USB Loader GX it will give an error that there is no cheats file. Ignore this and do not select the option to download any cheats file. If you download the cheats file it will overwrite the correct RSBE01.gct file that Project M needs in the 'codes' folder.

  • The steps in my guide should also work for getting Project M running on Dolphin as well.

Disclaimer: I will not be posting certain files that cannot be currently used, and those that are not useful enough so I would essentially be solely fringing upon Nintendo's privacy. You must legally own Brawl to download these files, that means having bought the NTSC disc from your local store or online, and you must currently have that disc. Any downloading of these files other than this disc is illegal.
Notice: I am only doing this to aid people who own the game to create new custom files that are useful in texture and music hacks. If anyone from Nintendo, Hal Laboratories, or any company that was involved in the creation of Brawl, I will gladly remove the files they wish removed. I have chosen only to have the Data Partition, and none of the VC games or the Update partition because neither of those aid the creation of new files, and only promote copyright infringement.
Note: A few files need to be compressed for me to upload them since I have a 100 mb limit on Mediafire. In this case, I have 7-zipped them and you need to uncompress it. The file in question should be where the .7z file takes its place.
Hey guys, you probably know me for the trolling I do and the help I give (oftentimes done at the same time) and I decided to extend my Brawl .pac thread to a whole new extent: essentially giving you every file possible of a double layered Brawl DVD (I'm upload the stuff as we speak). Anyway, this will serve many purposes.
First of all, everything inside partition 1 has the Brawl data, so if you treat Partition 1 as the pf folder, you can find the directory for any file you want to replace.
Second, its the ultimate archive of the files and it would be almost impossible to reconstruct this and make your own ISO so its not worth the hassle, so essentially I have made an archive of anything anyone would ever need. Enjoy it because no one will ever have to ask for a file again once this is completed (its gonna take a lot of work but it should be worth it).
Anyway, since it would take hours (days actually) to download all the files and you'd have to find a way to rebuild a partition, its the worlds most impractical way of piracy so its pretty safe to keep it uploaded on reasons of easier access and a complete waste of time trying to steal games like this.
I am also not uploading 2 files because of their sheer size (maybe more) and they are called dummy1.dat and dummy2.dat so it is an incomplete partition, meaning you couldn't even reconstruct the game if you wished. Now that pleasantries are over, heres the stuff you need:
